Well, most things of what you said are truth i must admit. Facts.
But still those devices are more convenient than notebooks and laptops, because of a size.
Most can be carried in a pocket and some in a bit larger pocket.
BTW i also didn't like to see unexpected (for me) pop up advertisements that appears from time to time.
I guess there must be the way to switch off such annoying things?
    Updates also.
Every few hours there is some update that pops up and annoy.
Simple switching off the wireless connection can solve this, i guess.
BTW Archos 70 i tested is not phone, not having sim card, which is good in a way.
At least mobile provider can not rob my account from time to time, as it usually is the case.

Looks like those guys are trying to out Minalab Minelab, including the price.

It's both a metal detector and 3D plotter, but probably not particular good at either, IMHO - a gimick if you ask me.

Regardless, it would be interesting to read some field reports.

It's a totaly overpriced toy. The price went up to the moon either.

          I do not recommend it.

Paying $ 12,000 for a cane does not seem normal. It is a very expensive toy and I do not do good work. I do not throw this money for a cane for walking.

              Usually sensors covers:
              Accelerometer,
              Light,
              Magnetic field,
              Orientation,
              Orientation raw,
              Proximity,
              Temperature,
              Tricorder...
              etc..etc..

Some of those can be used in our hobby.
First that came to my mind was magnetometer/gradiometer/logger application.

I was thinking to develop not only one app that covers one subject - but app which will cover several aspects of ground/magnetic/orientation survey techniques.
Such app may turn pretty handy for our hobby.
There are already numerous apps similar to this, but not done seriously enough.
Better ones are expensive and yet not offering exactly what we need here.
App i am talking about would be cheap enough, available to everyone and with several very nice and usable modules and features.
So i would like to see your opinion on this?
              Are there some interests?
That will not be free project - i plan it as commercial.
In time i can inform here about progress and results.. if i decide to start it.
Right now i only want to hear your opinions on this?
              Many thanks in advance!

That's why i started this topic.
All similar toys are usually overpriced.
Why wasting so much money, while we can try to achieve same thing with much less?
Deuce too, it is very nice and powerful - yet overpriced and hot!
New technologies, smaller SMT standards, mass production - those things should make our lives easier - not harder!
Deuce is "one coil + Sagem look like cell phone" packet!
Why paying 1400e for such thing?
Shouldn't be a opposite logic? To make it that way so to be cheaper and easy available to all people?
Just like cell phones; those are "ultra" high technology - yet very cheap and available to everyone...

                  Hi all,

well I think, it also makes sense to wait for the Windows 8 O/S. It is known to be optimized for touch pad and Tablet PC applications.

These hardware platforms were designed to be placed on the mass market. Hence, it's cheaper than any specialised smart phone/pad.

Intel is going to release the next generation of low power Atom processors (if they can handle their 32 nm problems quick).

Well, I like the Wintel combination as I can run a lot of my software applications on them.

2012 is going to be an interesting year.

                    Android

                    So,.. I am doing this.

The problem is Android phone draw 250mA of current.
                    But I don't mind.

I am sending all the raw detector data up to the android phone over BT.

all the processing and audio will be done in the Android.

This way, anyone can write their own app, and make their own audio scheme, log the data.. etc.

I have hardware based on my pulse induction design.
I want to do as much as possible at the Android level to allow other people to be able to change the design as much as possible.

Regarding OKM, they sell a long range gold finding pistol which makes me think everything they make is a hoax.

Regarding Minelab and Duece. They all use Pulses in a coil, Just pulses in a coil.
There is a theoretical limit to the depth of a coil. And no money or magic can improve it.
I think with some smart processing this detector will equal the others.

What the hardware does at the moment is send four numbers over bluetooth 10 times a second.
These four numbers are samples of the decay pulse at four positions.

Everything else is up to the android app, which I haven't written yet.

To give an idea of the sensitivity and signal-to-noise below is a bottle cap at 30cm. (coil ~25cm 310uH)

                      You are on right track!
Exactly what i pointed earlier here.
I will follow your progress with huge attention.
Ain't life crazy: earlier i had idea and tablet without Deus, now i have Deus without tablet and idea!!

Toys being grossly overpriced is why some people must have them. It feeds their ego and they never fail to mention how much they paid for it. I get much more satisfaction out of building my own.

This looks like it is going to be an interesting thread.

                        Thanks for bringing up.

Somehow i feel like split personality; now reading my own words from very recent past!
Before Deus i claimed one thing, now having Deus i am ready to say a bit different things about it!
Jerry you got the point. Seems it's all about ego stuff!
Seems nobody is immune enough on such temptations!
