  • sovereing Xs not working...

Hi there, I need a little help from masters.

I've a Minelab Sovereign XtraSensitive that doesn't works.... I've checked the unit with two different coils but stills doing the same.... using a new fresh batteries I turn the machine on and get a short sound (the usual sound Sovereings make while turning them on, something like a cat screaming ...) and then the unit doesn't detect any metal. The treshold sound is gone.

Any ideas? Could be the microprocessor (Sovereing rev 1.1) ?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks for looking.

Most probably it is not about microprocessor but more likely related to something trivial.
Sovereign is a bit delicate and will need more serious troubleshooting.

Hi Ivconic, It's strange because It's seems to work when turning it on (I get the cat sound....) I've made a visual inspection and I don't see any burn out component.... I'm agree with you, could be something more trivial... I'm gonna check all the pots. 10 years ago I owned a XsA2 pro faulty and was the main pot (on/off volume).

      Thanks for your reply...

BTW: Do you know if it's possible using reverse enginee. to crack the microprocessor protection? I mean lowering the temperature with Liquid Nitrogen or another way....

Sheesh! You don't want to do that!
        ...
If it is not working - doesn't mean that some component must be burned.
In most of the cases is related to some bad contact or some mechanical failure (as you discovered at XsA2).
Usually, first, all the voltages must be checked, measured.
Tracing voltages can easily lead you to finding the failure.
Also movable mechanical parts, like pots and switches; must be checked and measured.
In cases like Sovereign; i would rather suspect coil and cable - not machine itself.
Because Sovereign coil is having small pcb with components.
So if just one cable lead is broken; it will cause dramatic behavior, and if two leads in cable are shorted; than it may provoke more failures at machine too.
        First check cable connector.
Would be nice if you have another coil to switch and check machine with it.
Use search option here on forum and try to find schematic of that small pcb which is inside Sov coil. I think it was posted few times in the past.

              Was only a question.......

Thanks for the info, I'm gonna check both coils wires and if them are ok I'm gonna try trace the problem from the start, checking voltages and the rest .....

One more time thanks for your help

              All the best.

                  Hi Ivconic, unvaluable help

I'll check it tomorrow on the morning.

                  I'll post results tomorrow.

                  Thanks again

                      Yes, i think so too.
Took it from forum and have it for some time on my HD.
Can't recall exactly who posted it...

                        Fixed

                        Hi there,

Problem solved. It was a bad contact in the Volume/On Off pot. Now it's working.

                        Thanks for the help
