  • Bringing an old guy up to date

Need a bit of advise. My "electronics" knowledge ended when 2N107s appeared on the scene. Now that I am nearing retirement, it's time to get up-to-date with technology. (Doubt I could build a metal detector using 6C4s.) I'd like to get to the point where I could understand the circuit diagrams that appear on this site, and eventually be able to put together a circuit of my own design.

Any suggestions as to a book(s), website(s) or other resources that I should consult? The goal is to transition an old fart from vacuum tube days to modern circuitry.

    Thanks,

    Mark

I would recommend obtaining 'The Art of Electronics' by Horowitz and Hill. The second edition is better (being only 20 years out of date), but the cheaper 1st edn. will suffice.

As Skippy says, "The Art of Electronics" is good. I would also recommend "Electronic Devices and Circuits" by Thomas Bogart ->

      "Engineering Electronics" by Robert Mauro

      and "Microelectronics" by Jacob Millman

          I love this thread.

One of my favorite sites that I hope to some day fully read, Lessons in Electric Circuits: http://openbookproject.net/electricCircuits/index.htm

Hell, I go into here to remember some stuff that got lost in the Bit Bucket some times.
