  • Concealed carry MD suggestions

    Hi,

So far I'm just lurking around to find a MD that can be easily concealed on one's body. There is a strict regulation in my country regarding MD use, and I'm itching to try anyway.

Electronics is not an issue on my side, and I don't mind (re)inventing something to fit the need. I'm fine with LTspice etc.

What I have on my mind so far is rigging a pair of sneakers with coil(s), and fit everything else on my waist. Two box is an option as I can arrange a TX coil as a belt using a multi wire piece of cable with multi pin connectors to connect respective wires into coils.

Coin shooting, beaches, meteorites... I can't pinpoint exactly what purpose to chase at this point. I only wish to start soon

    Suggestions please

    Are you in Sweden ?
just recently somebody here (maybe Homefire) mentioned they built a coil into their shoe

how are you going to conceal your digging tools ?

No, Croatia. Long beaches, lots of virgin terrains...

My idea is that just walking around does not rise suspicion, and on mostly hard terrain with slim soils there is not much digging anyway. Perhaps I'd just do some coin shooting for a start. This is mostly a technological challenge for me so far. Who knows, maybe I'll get carried away eventually. So far I'm just exploring possibilities.

I'll see about Homefire. Shoe pickup seem logical.

        night time

You need to make very simple low cost detector and use it late at night.
then if you are in danger of being caught you can throw it in the sea.
        Then you make another.

Take it in turns with a friend who keeps a look out

What harm can searching a beach do

That could work. But beside simple BFO-s there are not many cheap options that actually work. Or are there? Any suggestions?

            Surf PI

I think something like a surf PI with a low cost wooden coil. If you have to abandon it you may be able to come back later and recover it. Carry an mp3 player and use the headset from this. These beaches will have a lot of good finds because they are not often searched.
You may bump in to others doing the same thing.

I've seen the surf schematic, and it is reasonably simple. I might have some ideas how to improve it a bit, but all in good time.
So far the main obstacle is to make a small coil that could be placed into a shoe. Working on it...

                to hide coil

One thing you could do is put the coil in the bottom of beach sachel and have along handle on the sachel (tote bag). Put the electronics either in bag or elsewhere out of site. Cover the coil and electronics with a towel. A kids sand scoop solves the digging problem. For an area that is not hunted to death you would probably do very well. Lots of lost jewelry at the beaches.

That was the whole idea. Croatian seaside is hardly overcrowded even in peak of season - heck, even lake Balaton in Hungary (a huge mud-hole) has more guests at any moment than a whole looooong Croatian coast. But I've never seen anyone hunting for metal at the beaches. So, why not!?

Probably because of your state regulations in this field.
                      Read this first:

I know that. Same goes for plucking endangered plants, but inspectors simply don't fine you unless it is obvious that you do it in commercial quantities.
Coin shooting and recovering lost jewelry is not exactly archeology, but just to be safe, I'd hide it simply not to draw ANY attention. Heck - you often stumble on valuable items just by chance.

Agree, the same here. Probably the most safe is meteorite hunting in nowhere.

Hi Davor, you're from Croatia, cool!

The most simple way is to put the detector and it's coil in a
large shopping bag that reaches almost to the ground.
Either a cheap security MD or the coil of a Ace 250 etc.
In that case put a bath-towel inbetween coil and MD-unit
and use a plastic scoop at beaches or a shovel in a backpack
                              somewhere else.

Walk around with this bag and set the volume to almost
unhearable or to vibration until you get a signal.

Another relativly unrisky method you can see here:
                              http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18623

And you can hunt at night with a dimmed head lamp.

My shoe-detector invention at the moment is not fully invisible.
Special fitting equipment must be created first but this would
be no problem for a large MD company.
