I'm more of a all-discrete-no-microcontroller-do-it-yourself kind of guy, so I wouldn't spoil all the fun by buying a commercial thing. Even if it was the best in the world.

Anyway, your suggestion with beach bag is just right. There are areas I wouldn't go foot first. Think of slithering, hissing reasons with pairs of sharp teeth and split tongues. There are only two seriously venomous species in Croatia, both wipers, and I even like most of them. But stepping with your almost bare foot into it guarantees immediate need for changing underwear. Or worse.

easy to do if you own an XP Deus machine as its all wireless.
i just strap the coil to the top my boot using tiewraps and the headphones around the neck thats all you need, the control box can go in your pocket.
i use this setup in parks and nobody takes any notice of me at all.
its as deep as if the coil was on the stem .

        @ Davor

If you wanna built yourself something:
buy one of those cheap plastic security MDs and try to
get the coil somehow around the shoe.

Or you may create a stick with pinpointer-tip.
One year ago somewhere I saw such a thing as commercial product.

However the much more important question is:

Digging the stuff without anyone get's your attention!

You may dig one or two things at a location with the same persons and then move to the next place.

Yeah, "detecting" vipers could be a bit dangerous.

Wireless coil would be perfect but more important is
a simple removable electronic unit from the rest.
Alot detectors with seperate display and detection
unit are not that easy to disassamble.

And an X-tra large bag for a 30cm coil is needed.
Perhaps a modified travelling bag with wheels also could work.

I'm sure I shouldn't buy commercial gadgets for sure. My soldering iron is not frequently hot recently, but I'm sure that is the way to go.
Beach bags are a good idea as coils do not need to be circular, and rigging one for the purpose seem just right. I think that is the right venue. Hiding in the most obvious - brilliant.
