Can we make IDX-PRO into simple TR only

All
IB's are not my favourite type of MD
but just been looking at the schematic of the IDX Pro
it appears that when you push the pinpoint button, it makes it a TR machine
which pretty much eliminates the function of U2, U3 U4 and the VDI
if we wanted to, couldn't we remove all those components
to make a simple TR machine, or for tuning coils.
please correct me if I am wrong

Yes, it's possible. Actually i did something similar for testing purposes some time ago, converting ckt. to 5V operation using MCP parts. Delete also 4016, use JFET instead of first one (like in Tesoro, R42 then goes to GND, not to +V), use quad opamp instead of 358 (324), you will end up whit only 3 ICs + regulator.
