Was going to make one from a Surf... Looked at a stud wall detector ...


Screwfix are Clearing stock of a model thats just fine for small metal.

I just got 2 and they work well on small gold current uk 5p 20p etc between 1 to 2" range, quite localised too.


Less than £15 for the pair

I had thought of using or modifying my stud finder. It wasn't the most practical for conversion. Zircon was the brand, the whole thing was a wide PCB with SMD.

Though I have not looked around too much yet, I'm surprised I have not seen an active pinpointer project.

It should be simple enough to use a basic circuit, and even have a better version like a surf conversion like you mentioned.
