  • Surf Pi R6 1w resistor

Just assembling the kit and don't remember seeing anything about this in any other forum posts about the Surf.

R6 is specified as a 1w resistor. The only 1w resistor I could get has much larger leg size than the holes on the pcb. Is it okay to just drill the pcb out? Or should i just throw a 1/4w resistor in there and hope for the best?

    I wouldn't drill the pcb

Did you get a kit or pcb from me ?

The 1W resistors I have are the same leg size as 1/4w and fit easy

If you can't source some I can send you some, pm me

      Hi Ben78,
I'm a newbie here so hello... My question is as it's a kit, didn't it come with the correct resistor? I only ask as I'm interested in ordering one and building it for my grandchildren to detect on local beaches. I would be interested to hear how you get on building it.

      Regards,
      Nugget.

Hi Silverdog, I just got the pcb as I already have quite a collection of parts (total spend at RS was $12 for the IC's)

I have some 0.5w metal films that fit no worries so I think I'll just put one of those in there.

Nugget, I have built a LOT of kits, this is the most tightly packed PCB I have done yet. I would suggest buying the kit of parts as a lot of the capacitors I have in my kit were too big for the board, also a couple of the resistors are non standard values so I have just used two in series in two places and two parallel in another two places - the kit of parts would solve that.
