  • Newbie help run@bout

I am about to buy a run@bout from accur@te Locators. I am not going to build my own unit so looking for a complete package deal.

Are there any other companies that I should look into first?

What comparable packages should i look into?

Please no advertisements. Personal experience with the company and equipment preferred.

I am sorry if this thread is in the wrong area.

Depends entirely on what you are trying to do.

      Thanks Carl,

I don't want to bore you with all my details but per my requirements, the run@bout seems to be a perfect match. I am mostly just checking to see if there are any serious kits that would compare to this specific model before I purchase.

      Thanks

Your initial post suggested that anything DIY was out-of-the-question. Do you know what the Runabout is capable of detecting, and what it won't detect? If we know what you are fundamentally trying to do, then we can offer suggestions. If not, then not.

          Got it,

Overall we are looking for devices that can be used throughout or family travels. Something easy to use and light for adverse terain but comprehensive in its results. Mostly US but some north and perhaps south of the border over time. Specifically, there are three sites we are planning to hit soon. One gold, One Silver, One mixed metals. All are no more than 20 ft in depth (per our research) We are planning to use the run@bout as well as pulse induction SSP-3100. We are far from professionals. Both myself and wife have a background in historical research and would like to start traveling with the kids on historical treasure hunts. I hope this is enough info. Thanks in advance Carl.

also, we plan to use this device not only for metal detection but also for identifying tunnels....subways tunnels under the parks, nyc mysteries...

I doubt the Runabout has any ability to detect gold or silver. Iron, yes. Tunnels, maybe.

Based on the description of our requirements, Do you have any other suggestions?

I found the team over there at accur@te to be very informative and helpful. They claimed the Run@bout would meet and exceed my requirements. I understand they are selling their product and I am not well versed in this industry I would love a second opinion before I purchase. Does anyone have any recommendations. experience with this or other comparable equipment. Who should I talk to, look up.....?

If I'm not mistaken, the Runabout is a magnetometer. It can map magnetic field variances, but would miss a 10-pound gold bar lying in plain view. However, depending on the exact situation, it may be able to detect the ground disturbance resulting from a 10-pound gold bar getting buried.

"Depending" is key here; you really need to know exactly what you after (target), the exact circumstances (ground, depth, anomalies, etc), and then choose the proper equipment for that. If you don't have the exact information, then selecting the right equipment is a very expensive crap shoot. Your big PI may be your best bet, though you might want to consider adding a Geo-Logger which would give it (kinda) similar abilities to the Runabout in mapping variances.

If you go to Accurate Locators, take with you a 10-pound lead bar, toss it on the ground, and ask for a demo. That'll clear things up in a hurry.
