I am looking to buy a oscilloscope on ebay they have many what kind of specs do i need on a oscilloscope to test MD's. they have pocket size one and ones that will hook up to your PC. I have knowledge about electronics but have not used a oscilloscope since high school witch has been a long long time ago. What am I looking for in buying a oscilloscope. this is the first time I posted a question on here and not sure I am doing it right but have read all your forums on MD's and you all are assume, the vast info I have found on here is remarkable. I have been building MD's for over a year and have ran across this site about a month ago and can not stop reading your forums. The MD's I have built I managed to do with out a oscilloscope, just good luck I guess because they all work Thanks for all your help out here. Pin Head.

You will need a dual-channel scope with at least a 20MHz bandwidth. I would advise getting one of the small digital scopes, such as a GwInstek, Rigol, or similar. In the UK you can purchase a 50MHz digital storage scope for £199 with free delivery from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Siglent-SDS1...ds=osciloscope
At this price it's not worth messing around with a secondhand analog unit.

Ok, Thanks although that looks like a good deal it is just a little pricey for me right now but now I have a starting point thanks, I am in the US so that would be around $300.00. Have you had any experience with the hand held ones or the PC add ons?

I don't see independent adjustable vertical position channel 2 controls on that unit.
And you can get the Owon DS6062
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OWON-SDS6062...item2a1716bdcb
The seller is based in China, not the US as the listing states

the owon has a 3 year warranty as well i see over the 1 year on the other and i think most would come from china the uni-t is sold in australia but made in china and i would imagin they would ship from manufactuer
the vert postition is done with in the channel 1/2 switch wict would ad some confusion when operating
thanx for the advise sven1

Wow, you can get a lot of 'scope for not much money these days. Analog scopes still have their niche and for that it's hard to beat an older Tek like the 475, but either one of these scopes looks like a great buy. The combined vertical control on the Uni-T isn't hard to get used to, even some high-end Tek scopes have done it this way. But yeah, I prefer separate controls, and Owon has pretty complete specs listed and had been selling scopes for many years, so I would give them the nod.

I am thinking of buying a scope to, either an old one or a cheap digital pocket scope, does anyone have one of these and and if so are they any good?, will it do the job for building metal detectors? A small pocket scope is preferable as I have to much junk around my home and I not in a position to spend much more than this.

I ended up buying one now, hopefully its does the job and doesn't end up DOA as its coming interstate, but if anyone uses Hantek one in the link above or something similar then let me know what its like as I am still interested to know.
This is the one I bought, know nothing about this purchase or if it will do the job.
