I think the problem then is the auto circuit. It may just be part of the design. Most older scopes use an analog auto circuit and wil make a trigger about 1/20 of a second if there is not trigger. Inexpensive digital scopes might use the microprocessor to do this hence the longer delay. There are advantages to this approach. You can not use auto if your trigger rate is lower that the auto rate. For example if the signal only happens 10 times per second you can not use auto. You may be able to on your scope. You may just have to live with it.
