Here are pics of two new shells under construction, a 14x12 inch DD for Dave Emery (also building one of these for my Explorer) and the molds for a new 11 inch DD for Eric Foster just after applying some sealer.
I am not completely sure what the 14 by 12 forms are going to look like. Are they going to be more solid or are you going to ultimately cut the form out so it sort of matches the 11" round ones?
Also, are they going to be for sale and available to other people?
Sorry my message above was a little confusing, the dark wooden discs in the first picture above are prototype bandsaw wheels for a machine I'm building to trim these shells. The hotwire cutter works well enough for trimming but its very slow. I need a bandsaw with about 20 inches of open blade to slice the bottom .100 off these formed shells. No small task building that, it remains to be seen if I can do it.
The black shells in the second picture are the 14x12 shells, they still need to be trimmed of course.
I do plan to offer a number of different size and style coil shells for sale to whomever might be interested. At present they are rather time consuming to make, the biggest issue is trimming and I'm trying to solve that. The hotwire cutter works well enough but is very slow, about 14 minutes per shell e.g. 28 minutes for a shell and scuff cover. If the bandsaw works that should cut that down considerably.
