I have been busy in my laboratory er...I mean my shop building a horizontal bandsaw to trim coil shells once they have been vacuum formed. This saw has 24 inches of open blade, probably net 22 inches once I add the blade guide bearings. I flipped the switch tonight and frankensaw roared to life!
I machined all the bearing blocks on the mill out of 5/8 aluminum, as well as the wheels and most of the hardwood parts. Thats 6 quarter tropical mahogany beams (they are brutes) with a double 1x8 oak backbone. A bit overkill it turns out. Next up will be the table top, stand, and plenty of finger proofing for safety.
If this works well for trimming shells I may replace the hardwood parts over time with aluminum.
