Here is a joke which I tried to submit to a tool website, but I guess that the company had gone out of business:

A grandfather, a father and a son are going to build a fence for the family ranch, and want the fence to enclose the greatest amount of area using the least amount of fencing. They decide to have a friendly contest, for some chores on the ranch, to see who can come up with the best idea.
The grandfather, an accomplished machinist, wants to build a circular fence about 100 yards in diameter, and proclaims that his design is the most efficient under the conditions stated.
The father, a chemist, proposes to build a fence out of a new material he has invented, which can be stretched to twice its original length, allowing the shape of the fence to be changed when desired.
The son, who had to be dragged away from the internet for the fence discussion, goes dumpster diving, and finds an old computer, an old printer and an old monitor. He builds a cnc machine out of the printer, uses it to make a small fence out of the computer case, and hammers the fence into the ground with the power transformer from the monitor. The grandfather and the father find him at the very back of the property. He stands with the fence around himself, and says...
"I declare myself to be on the outside."

Might seem like a joke, but that's how we on this forum perceive ourselves with respect to the large detector manufacturers. I'm sure!

An interesting (and totally unforeseen) interpretation!

                The missing pound

                The missing pound riddle

Three members of the local band check into a cheap motel for the night and the clerk tells them the bill is £30, payable in advance. So they each pay £10 and go to their room. A few minutes later, the clerk realizes he has made an error and overcharged for the room by £5, he asks the bellboy to return the £5 to the friends. The bellboy reasons with himself that the three friends will struggle dividing the £5 evenly between them so he decides to tell them that the clerk made a mistake of only £3. He gives back £1 to each friend and he pockets the remaining £2. So now the friends have each paid £9 making a total of £27. The bellboy has pocketed £2, add this to the £27 and you get a total of £29.

What happened to the other pound ?

Very clever. Not heard this one before.
Have a look at the chart below:

                    STEP F1 F2 F3 CL BB
                    1 10 10 10 0 0
                    2 0 0 0 30 0
                    3 0 0 0 25 5
                    4 1 1 1 25 2

F1 to F3 are the 3 friends, CL is the clerk, and BB is the bellboy.
The total at the end is still £30.
The confusion here is caused by subtracting the incorrect numbers to arrive at the wrong answer. Yes - the 3 friends did each pay £9 (a total of £27) but the difference of £3 is made up of the money the bellboy returned to the friends, not the £2 in his pocket.

                    It's a good one though.

OK - the chart's a bit messed up, but you can figure it out.

Giving 1 pound back to each friend means that the friends have 3 ponds, and the clerk has 25 pounds. That totals 28 pounds. Stop ruining my thread!
