Carry a gold pan (of course), and a black plastic sheet. Make sure that the material is completely dry (spread material on plastic in the sun). You should have a method to TEST whether gold is present in your area of concern. Best way to do this is to take samples and classify material down to at least 30 mesh with a screen. Take the classified material to a water source. This will save you a lot of work. If gold is present in quantities that will pay at least $15 a yard, a good dry washer will wear you out, but give some return.

I would suggest you get a steel pan used for drypanning and learn how to dry pan. It can be done other than that you could buy or build a hand cranked drywasher. You would not need to carry a motor and gas to run it. Plus it is fairly quiet.

Gold extraction methods from dry dirt
Thank-You for all the responses so far , and I am sure there will be alot more information posted . It is a great subject for this forum , because if a metal detector signals minute or tiny flakes in a dry remote region , how do you extract / separate and save everything you can without any water . I am still reading and searching the internet and I have time because its still 100 degrees everyday. In late October , early November the weather should be perfect . I need to read more about all the suggestions like the mesh screen method . The hand-cranked Dry-Washer sounds great , i have never used one and I am sure a shovel will be required for all methods
..................Thank-You .........Eugene
