use an old direct drive turntable (not the belt drive- not enough drive strength)

drill holes in alu table and pin the wire holders on it then press start button

      home madeCoil milling machine

Trust me all you need is the old calculater trick and a reed switch with a magnet, just go to any diy store and buy door contact switches that are used in security alarm installation and have been used since the year dot, they cost about £1, if you buy the surface mounted ones its easy peasy, magnet goes on the drive, which for my electric winder was took out of its plastic housing and the reed switch, which was left in its housing stays static, then everytime the table makes a full turn the magnet passes the reed switch and vula its like you pressing = on the calculator so 1 turn =1 another turn = 2 and so forth.
If you go into the coil section of this forum you will see that ages ago how I made mine out of a old motor from a car window winder, the axal/bearings from the back wheel of a old push bike , and carcuss and a couple of wooden 250m drum of coaxal cable, for the housing and the coil table, even the 3 long bolts that hold the drum together is what is holding my machine together
Far as the motor to drive the table, just to a garage you will get one for nothing because when window winders in cars etc go faulty its very rare for the motor to be at fault, its always the winder drive cogs that go out of mesh, and you cant buy the motors seperate, you have to buy the whole assembly so theres an abundance of motors out there just getting thrown away.
I always use mine on 5volts perfect speed so much torque you cannot stop it by hand , the downfall is the motor draws 1.5A due to its h/p and gearing.( on my thread I put 150ma which is wrong)
Everything used was from my business premises apart the motor which cost me a beer which incl delivery to the workshop.
Its all there for you pictures the lot I put it on here to share, but to date I dont think anyone else has built it, but for the life of me dont know why, because its got to be the best on here by far easy build, cheap and does the business, its only a matter of time when I will be able turn the whole essembly either upside down/sideways screw on a standard chuck then it will be lathe/bench drill/milling machine. all made for pennys.

        old idea

mount a length of threaded rod (easy to use 1mm pitch thread but any other will do) central on your former now 1 turn of former will advance a fixed nut the same amount as pitch, in the simplest 1mm pitch 150 turns equals 150mm movement of nut hope that is usefull KISS idea

Here's a link to another coil winder design by cyclops, acrylic sandwich, fill gap with resin, then wind coil.

                Thanks, cyclops.
