I agree, it's always interesting, even if main conclusion is an idea is not so good.

I think the wooden coil housing is a good idea.

I have very good plexi ( really good quality, anti UV ) 8mm, do you think it's a good idea to make the same process and put the coil in epoxy bi-component resin ?

If you think it's a good idea, i can post pictures in another post about this, asap i finish it. It's heavy but i have somes good tools to reduce the weight.

Just for information for wood, i think the best paint is the same than for speaker cabinet. It don't smell during process, dry after 10 minutes and you can make textures with specials roller. Result is really professional.

http://www.bluearan.co.uk/index.php?...e=manufacturer ( for exemple, same thing exist in US, but not at same price )

I build a cabinet speaker, and trust me, no problem of moisture at all !

No problem if you use it as your speaker in apartment. Good enough for saloon detectorist.

Try to roll your speakers trough wet grass for one day and you'll see results. Not to mention beach/surf searching.

Wood can be only stop-gap solution in test phase. Not for serious searching.

I don't talk about small cabinet for room use, but more outdoor live music use. Conditions are not the same. When the paint is dry, the finish is very hard and no easy to damage...

Most of people don't would make a vacuum form for one coil, if you make more than maybe 3 it's probably a good idea, but not for one part. Wood is easy to work, easy to find, so it's not a good idea. The best one, probably not at all.

Do you know another technic to make a coil around the same price/time ? Or maybe something to buy in europe ?

( I love Bled and Ljubjana, but it's not the same subject )

The polyester resin is solvent based, that is why you can clean it up or thin it with acetone. It will "melt" styrofoam. What it does is dissolve the styrene bubbles allowing the air to escape. You might try one of the rigid polyeth or polyprop foams. Can be had sometimes as sheet stuff from packing material. Like the idea using wood. Easy to get and plastic wood can be used to get custom shapes for small areas.
