I bought one. Haven't used it a whole lot, but so far I'm very impressed!

What is actual bandwidth and rise time of this scope? Fact that this is not specified at all make me bit suspicious.72MSPS is nice, my 100MHz HP is only 20MSPS, but this is not all important. For 199$ on Ebay you can find decent "old school" HP or Tek scope, then you will know you have reliable oscilloscope, not a toy made from modified cellphone platform. Any more details or opinions are welcomed, i'm considering something handheld, but from my experience whit similar things so far, this will be postponed for at least some time.

I would not recommend this scope as a primary unit; it's too small, and too difficult to manipulate the controls. Also uses unique probes. I would, however, recommend it for field testing, where you can mount it on the detector and monitor live signals.

Thought it might be handy for a small seismic DSO, but I see that the inputs are 2-analog and 2-digital but it has external triggering (striker plate trigger). I suppose a person could whip up an A/D device, but why hassle it when so much is available on the surplus market. My geophones are all analog (surplus of course).

It's interesting for something portable but the 20mV vertical sensitivity won't cut it. For comparison, you can get a used Tektronix 2225 with 500uV vertical sensitivity for around $100.
I'm liking my new Rigol DSO for $315.

Great topic! I'm laboratory-challenged at the moment, and I'll need to do some shopping. Sales tips are welcome

Yes, and also I would not buy DSO without FFT signal processing (spectrum analyzer) anymore.

Recently I am buying this little toy (DSO 096, 10mV vertical sensitivity, 3.7V Li-ion battery/USB PS, USB connection for data transfer and firmware upgrade ) from JYE Tech:

                  USA $75 + $11,50 shipping.

                    Check out this scope: http://tronixstuff.wordpress.com/2011/02/13/the-worlds-smallest-oscilloscope/

It's actually small enough for prototyping and includes packet sniffing, fft and is also a wave form generator. You can't beat that for $49!

                      Nice and useful micro-piece.

Here's a pic of my MiniDSO next to my Rigol, displaying both a logic waveform and a flyback pulse. You can see that the MiniDSO doesn't have quite the BW of the Rigol but it's not bad! I would rate it as highly useful as a field scope.
