What is good to clean pots on an older detector with? I have one and some of the pots are a little scratchy.

Watch out with ordinary contact spray. This stuff is normally used for switches and it is very aggressive. If you can get to the resistors, I would try alcohol. Apply with a cotton tip and turn the pots a couple of times with the detector turned off. Then let dry.
If cleaning doesn't help, your pots may be worn and you have to replace them.

Get a SPECIALIST can of switch cleaner (WITH LUBRICANT) hold the pot with the hole facing DOWN and spray liberally, allow to dry and repeat a couple of times moving the wiper GENTLY each time.
If you use Alcohol you will dry out the shaft AND track lube, this will make the pot wear out a LOT faster.
NEVER, NEVER use WD40 or the like, they leave a film which dust and grot sticks to making the pot even worse that it was before in a very short period of time.
I learned this when I serviced detectors, I ALWAYS cleaned the pots whether the user asked for it or not, and the crap that came out of most was unbelievable!
