  • Garrett ADS 3 VLF/TR metal detector. Rechargeable Batteries need replaced

Hello, I am a newbie here and to metal detecting. I just got the Garrett ADS 3 VLF/TR metal detector from Ebay and it seems to be in great shape, but it has 4, 9 volt NI-CD rechargeable batteries that are actually 7.2 volts at 75mAh made by SANYO. My question 1, can I just buy 4 new 9 volt rechargeable batteries and that's the fix. Or 2, Find a 9 volt that is similar in voltage and go a little higher on mAh. Or go with a regular 9 volt battery which is around 8.4 volts and just use 3 batteries with a higher mAh.

You can use NiCAD, NiMH, or alkalines. You will need all 4 batteries.

9 Volt batteries, are all good to use, no matter if they are "not rechargable" or "chargable", but do not try to RE-CHARGE the Alkaline (NOT RE-CHARGABLE) batteries. It could be dangerous with the batteries. Just buy new batteries when they run down. Replace all 4 at one time is what I do as well.I have tried RE-CHARGABLE Batteries, but the Alkaline work better and are higher voltage. So I stopped re-charging them...

Ohhh. I own a voltmeter, so when I go out buying the alkaline batteries, I test them, as if they do not sell them over time, some of them run a bit down. I find most of them are around 10.00 volts when they are really fresh in stock! I test them right on the counter too as I am not bashfull!!!!!!! When I buy they have to be at least 9.0+ in voltage or I don't buy them... If you find EverReadys in stock, the price is right and they check out more then 9V, buy them. I like name brands, but no name brands check out, price is right, I buy them too...
