  • D-tex SK50

Just picked up one of my old time favorite detectors.

Had to replace two toggle switches, knobs and handle.
Put in a new set of batteries, bench tested the unit. Works great!!!
I have never had one of these that air tested a small (half dime size) foreign bronze copper coin & a silver dime at 12" in VLF mode. And 10" in Disc. mode.
Must be a hot unit. I remember way back when my local dealer got a large batch of these in, each unit air tested differently.

Now if it will only handle the red clay mineralized ground we have here in Ga.

Any info on the last detectors made by D-tex or have a GCD-2???

      Got another

Well the last SK50 I sold while living in Georgia. Moved back north to where the SK50 can handle the ground.....have another one on the way.
Just needs a repair of some sort. Got it cheap with manual.
      Horray.

I WAS CURIOUS HOW DEEP THIS WILL DETECT ON A DIME IN NORMAL SOIL CONDITIONS OR AIR TEST.

I did do an air test several years ago with the last one I owned. I lost my paper with the test during my last move.

The air tests were impressive if you compare it to many current models.

In my first post about the SK50:
"....... air tested a small (half dime size) foreign bronze copper coin & a silver dime at 12" in VLF mode. And 10" in Disc. mode."

Actual depth in ground when I lived in Western New York was comparable to the Garrett Master Hunter ADS I used for years, if I recall right with the stock coil. Dimes to 8". Using a larger coil, dimes to 10".

The SK50 was based on the Garrett Master Hunter series, the CK20 was based on the Garrett Groundhog series. Coils from these models can be used on the D-tex units.

So if you want to own one but, can't find one, buy a Garrett Master Hunter ADS I or II. There are no more parts to be obtained for the D-tex. Keith Wills bought all the remaining parts way back when...and no longer has any.

So much for the lifetime warranty!
Perhaps the definition of "lifetime" is in the small print.

              Yeah!!
Lifetime warranty usually means life time of the company....

It probably means the lifetime of the product, so it's somewhat misleading. Where product lifetime is arbitrarily defned by the company. It's just another marketing gimmick.
