  • Questions on Hammerhead PI and homemade coil.

I just finished putting together my first PI and have a few questions about it. It does work and for my very first I am surprised at the performance. I am wondering how hot the 8" coil should get, and also what kinda numbers as far as distance would be good for a nickel and a quarter? I am still in the final assembly stage but I do get some nice audio on those targets. By the way I measured the Resistance of the coil after winding it and I only have about 2 ohms. Will this damage anything?

2 ohms is fine. The coil should not get hot, unless you possibly run it with a large pulse width and high pulse rate. I know at the extreme settings my damping resistor gets pretty warm, never checked the coil though. I would guess 8"-10" on a nickel, I think that's about what I'm getting.

When I get the battery box mounted in the case I will check the distance on some targets.
      Thanks
