Where did you get the bracket for the coil shell where the bottom stem attaches?

Aha! That is a clamp thingy used to secure a boat awning. I found them on Ebay (or at a Chandlers) for about 2.50 each. All nylon and they are easy to tap - just screw the bolt you want to use first (ie a metal one first). It is secured with those plastic thingys that join kitchen units together - - NOT rthe type witjh a metal screw. The stem etc came from an old £5.00 punt on Ebay (70's BFO broken).

What are dimensions (between ears in first line)?

Width for pole end is 9mm. Just ordered four more. BTW I use nylon nuts and bolts from Ebay --way cheaper than so called metal detector coil bolts etc.
