  • Help me build a Lorenz coil

    Hi everybody,
I'm a n00b in coilmaking, so I'd appreciate your input for someone who has no knowledge of electronics.
My project: Lorenz 1m diameter mono cable coil for searching only iron objects.
I have a Deepmax X5 with a 12m cable coil. I'd like to make a similar cable coil, just smaller for mounting on a circular PVC pipe.
The 12m coil has: Belden V8770 CM 3C18 Shielded cable for the coil (18 AWG stranded (16x30) tinned copper conductors, conductors cabled, polyethylene insulation, overall
Beldfoil® shield (100% coverage), 20 AWG stranded tinned copper drain wire, PVC jacket.), Bedea #1213 MXR 0,9Lz/2,95 - PUR for the connector cable from coil to plug, and plug: Binder S693 8A/250V with 7 pins.
So the question is which kind of cable can I use for the 1m diameter coil? I've read tons of posts and came to the conclusion that using a ready made cable with several wires inside and soldering them together like in this post http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showt...t-Lorenz-coils is best for what I want. They propose Belden-M 8723 - for a 1 x 1m frame coil - will this work with 3.14m circumference? Shielded or unshielded? Which wire diameter and how many turns?
Which coax cable should I use? The orig. plugs are available here.
Cables should be available in Europe (or US) in small quantity since those Belden cables only come in 100m+ packages...
Does anyone of you know if such a coil will work with a Garrett Sea Hunter as well or what do I have to change?
    Many thanks in advance!
