  • Treasure Baron coil specs.

    Hi,
I'm looking at the possibility of using another make of coil on my Discovery Electronics Treasure Baron. The Kellyco Cobra II, C-Scope Newforce CS 5ZX, and A&S Special were variants of it. 12.5 KHZ. I'm looking for the coil pinouts, resistance and inductance, and whether or not the TX and RX are isolated.
    Thanks!
    Dave

Bounty Hunter coils won't work on your Cobra II, nor will coils from any other detectors except those made for the Barons and those for three of the detectors, two Newforce models and one C-Scope model, that Discovery and C-Scope jointly built. The Newforce CS-5ZX, CS-4ZX, C-Scope CS8SST and also Millenium II Cointrax Baron coils will work, but the connector has to be changed from the screw on type they came with to the 5 pin DIN push on type the other Barons use.

I remember reading that. I also remember a discussion about other make coils on the TB forum but some of the archives are missing.

dgerst sorry i am not able read what you reading.
Mrand gave 350uH and 10.4mH for coil that i see on his schematic of Viper. i hope you remember... not?

It looks as though DFX coils are close enough in resistance and impedance that it might be worth building a coil adapter to try it out.
          White's DFX concentric
          Rx 1,2 13.8mH 36 ohms
          Tx 4,5 540uH 2.7 ohms
          ==========
          White's DFX DD
          Rx 1,2 14.2mH 55 ohms
          Tx 4,5 680uH 3.5 ohms

you have to add a capacitor...DFX coil has not it.
to tune TX part in resonance on working frequency connecting capacitors in parallel.

So I would need to add a 470nF capacitor across the TX? I noticed the DFX has a 38pF capacitor across the RX. Would that have to be eliminated as well?
              Thanks!

no, you would not have eliminate 38pF and open the coil. you have to add 470+-nF outside getting the voltage resonance 12,5kHz.
DFX coil is unresonance, be cause multifrecuency.

I have a DFX 950 coil to try this. I'll make an adapter with a capacitor. It would nice if this works. It would give Baron owners many more coil choices. A large DD would be fun to try. Now I have to fine a Whites female connector. Thanks for your help!
