  • Coil problem

Someone gave me a coil for my old Wilson to replace the defective one I had. Now it is giving problems. Every time the bottom of the coil is slightly depressed the machine sounds off. If I pinch the coil between my fingers it does the same thing.

Any ideas how to fix it?

degradation of shield foil of cable. maybe. cut off a small part, delete izolation, look foil on a light.
you will see cracks on all length. a cable on old coil need to be change.
you have to know that and be ready to change a cable if buy vintage.

But it false when touching bottom of coil not cable. I have had coil where you touch cable near coil and it false, but not this one.

first earlier coil was done without solid whole surface graphite layer at bottom. you touch and paper with graphite
        moving. that gives false.
you have to open coil and run it to modern state - do graphite layer and do good contact to the shield
via naked wire to the ground pin.

Where does someone get the graphite paint to paint the inside of the coil again?

Yep, that's how to do it. How many people would have gave up and chucked it out ?

I used this stuff called Blaster Graphite Dry Lubricant I bought from Home Depot. I sprayed on several coats until I got the same resistance reading an inch apart on the test probes as I got on the original coil.
