  • XLT & DFX Displays

If anyone has a DFX or an XLT can you do me a favour and take dimensions of the display control board please? I need L, W and the position of the connectors as I am making a drop in replacement display module with LED backlight instead of EL. Mine works with variable brightness and contrast "just like the real thing" but I need the dimansions with mountin hole positions etc.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Sean, your post looks like it is 3 weeks old now. Have not been on the forum for years now (family stuff ...)

Would you still like the dimensions of the board or has this been solved in the meantime? Would take my display apart to take measurements ... those I do not have ... I just took photos, way back when.

    Cheers

      Hi Polymer,

Yes, I'd still like the dimensions please. I'm designing a drop-in replacement as I see a lot of people on other forums wanting new displays, but no one is doing them.

Sean, which board are you wanting to redesign? The display pod has an interface PCB and a display PCB. The display PCB is an off-the-shelf module, originally a Hantronix HDM64GS12. This is usually the part that goes bad, and to repair it you just buy another module. I've never tested one, but there are a bunch of compatible-looking modules for around $10 on eBay.

Karl, it's the display control board.

I'm creating a version with LED blacklight, using a 12F675 to read the brightness, then using pwm to control it.

Finding a replacement module is easy, but no one used EL backlights anymore.

From these you should be able to measure part locations.

It seems to me that if the interface board is otherwise working (and they rarely went bad) all you need to do is replace the EL inverter module with a circuit that can drive an LED backlight. Depending on how the backlight is done, this might be as simple as replacing R128-R131 with appropriate values and driving the BL directly from U19.

Yes, but messing around isnt for everyone. I want to sell a drop in replacement.
