  • Info on Tesoro Sand Shark coil connector

I'm looking for info on the Tesoro Sand Shark coil connector. Any help is appreciated.

It's an M16 (16mm) connector made by Methode Electronics. They no longer make the connector and I have not seen anything else compatible.

Thanks for the info. I've looked everywhere and nothing.

When Methode stopped making the connector, Tesoro looked everywhere for a replacement. So did I. Tesoro went so far as to buy an injection molding machine to try and make their own, but they failed. Today, there are other decent waterproof connectors available that you can use, but you will need to convert the control box and existing coils.

I was looking for the connector so I could make replacement coils and experiment. The whole unit is stock so I don't want to modify it. I have another Sand Shark but that one has the plastic style connector (see attached pic). This unit came with a damaged coil so I replaced it with a coil I made.

After Methode stopped making those connectors, Tesoro began hard-wiring the coil cable. I suggest you use the hard-wired unit to experiment on. Convert it to a new connector.

              Hi,

check-out these IP68 waterproof connectors. They come with 2,3,4,5,6 and 7-pins.

Lots of connectors! Need to find something that will work with minimal mods to the unit....right now I don't see a good option.

                    Hi Ahermida,

if you cannot see these two good options as a replacement connector than you will never find an option that works for you, except to stick with that you have.
It comes to the impression that you either have no experiences or do not really know what you want. And in any case, you need to modify your detector design.

GeoMax my initial idea was to find the same connector. The other options are good but I don't want to modify the Sand Shark. I will use my 2nd Sand Shark that allows me to put other coils but I have to solder the wires inside the unit.

You will not find the Methode connector anywhere. The connector is overmolded to the cable and was custom made by Methode for Tesoro. Many years ago when Methode was still making them, I contacted them and asked to purchase some because Tesoro would not sell me any. They refused because it was a custom Tesoro design. They did not make a field-applicable version of connector that you could use with your own cable.

So your only option is to choose a new connector. If you want to keep it waterproof, then the connector needs to be large enough to fit the current hole in the box. That might limit your choices.
