  • MXT mod plans...

    Hi.

Just bought me a 2002 model MXT for mod purpose. Tried alot of detectors in my detecting life but the MXT is among the few that shines and will shine for many years...

To understand what I am going for ill explain my search habits with the MXT.

I allways toggle between Relic mode @ disc 1.8/9 and prospecting mode @ Hypersat speed... This involves lots of use on the dual knob.

What im after is to split the dual knob in two knobs, one for Disc and one for Sat Speeds..

I will also try to move the Mode selector switch up to the LCD pod. Maybe even the ground track selector switch. That will make room for the new knob I hope.

Does anyone know if this have been done before, is it even possible or are there some obstacles i have overlooked here.

Maybe even the next whites machine has it onboard so to speak...

    regards.

If you replace the SPDT mode switch with a DPDT, then you can probably switch in a separate SAT pot. You only need to switch the CT lead; the outer leads go to +5 and GND. I would leave the switches where they are, look at mounting the SAT pot on the front of the case.

      Thanks Carl..

I will try what You suggest. You surely know what You talk about.

I have seen some pics of a MXT with the two switches moved to the LCD pod and with two unknown knobs where they used to be.

Wonder what that mod was and who made it. Ill attach the pics for You to make up an opinion.

      regards.

I remember this one, those aren't knobs. He just moved the two switches, those are just covers over the holes. Rob

          Thanks..

I didnt even consider they were just covers for the holes. They are shaped like knobs arent they. Looks very 3 dimentional in the pic..

There isnt many mods on the MXT around.

Considering the huge number of sold units, modders must think they are very close to perfect as they are...

            MXT Knb Mods.

I'm the guy that did the mods to the switches. This is an older version of the mod that had two switches added up on the meter where they should be in the first place. The two gray knob looking things were just covers to keep the original knobs from getting bumped. They have now been totally removed.

Had this mod done by a fellow in Califoria, three mods actually.

The first mod is an audio boost when turned on the threshold needs to be turned down it also raises the threshold tone frequency to hear weak targets better.

The second mod is a sensitivity boost which increases sensitivity by 25%.
In high mineralization ground it needs to be turned off, this mod also will overload sooner on large targets.

Third is an adjustable tone control, it raises or lowers the tone frequency on threshold and target tone.

IS THIS MOD STILL AVAILABLE FOR THE MXT?
