  • Minelab Explorer

I just found a fantastic place to detect Civil War artifacts but now I blew a transistor in my Minelab Explorer and I now have no sound. My headphone socket stopped working and since I am detecting within about 200 feet of Highway 44 I cannot hear a darned thing because of the traffic noise. I started to install a new 1/4 socket so that I can use my good headphones but while doing so I shorted out the speakeer wires and blew a transistor. The detector works fine, just no sound. I have been searching for a few hours to find out where I can get the blown transistor. It is labeled Q504 on the circuit board. But I can find no markings on the transistor itself. If anyone has any idea of the number of this Q504 transistor then maybe I can find one and get the detector working quickly. If I could find a schematic then maybe it would have the name or label for that particular transistor. It is fried for sure, but as I said the detector seems to work although there is no sound. Reason I am so desperate is because yesterday in about five hours of detecting I found twenty nine .69 caliber minnie balls, four buttons, one knapsack hook, and one 1854 seated half dime. There have been a lot of half dimes come from this site and I just now got permission to hunt it after the site was closed down. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You might look at the "PI Discri schematic" post and see if the circuit looks the same. From what you are describing it may. Then guess at the part. Just about any small signal NPN transistor should work.
