  • Question on the CZ20 detector.

I have a friend that has one and the wire that comes out for his headphones has a break in it about an inch from the box , so he put a tiewrap around it to hold it to the box to keep it from moving, does anybody know how to take it apart, and give me instructions of how to do it so i can fix it for him, he's 82 years old and can't do it himself and don't want to send it in to be fixed, can anybody help me, i would appreciate it very much, thank you. There are (I think) 4 screws in the bottom of the battery box, under the foam cushion. Remove those & the case pulls apart. However, you risk leaks if you don't get it back together correctly. I recommend sending it to Fisher for repair, shouldn't cost much.

Sounds to me like Harold is describing a wire-break in the headphone cable, close to where it is plugged into the detector, and not a problem inside the machine. Hence why ty-wrapping the cable 'in the correct position' is the temporary solution. I am not familar with the Fisher waterproof connectors, maybe FisherLabs can repair it, but new 'phones may be needed. If the machine does not need to be waterproof afterwards, it might be possible to carry out a reasonably good non-waterproof electrical repair.
