  • Pain Therapy using our technology?

    Hi,
My sister just underwent her 5th hip replacement and is in significant pain. The meds she's taking are nasty and they are trying everything to get the pain level down. It made me wonder what the result would be if I were to make up a variable rate and pulse-width transmitter to a small coil and place it near her new hip joint? It is metal but I don't know of what type. Seeing as it would then generate eddy currents, what would be the effects? Less or more pain? Good or bad for healing? I have read a lot about TENS units but they do not address something as specific as this where a TX coil is exciting the new hip prosthesus. Sorry for being a bit off topic... :-)

TENS is mostly based on contact electrodes not like EM field using coil TX named PEMF.

You need to search for "pulsed electromagnetic field post-surgery therapy"

What you suggest is TENS. Relatively dangerous things. It can lead to uncontrolled musculature contractions and worst here sister conditions.

Please see Chemelec's web site, he has got several TENS schematics : http://chemelec.com/Projects/Tens/Tens.htm
See this project too : http://kisu.tripod.com/ , I've got one and it works fine.
          Best regards,
          Hugo

I can only repeat, TENS type devices are not safe in bklein case (due high possibilities of uncontrolled muscle contractions which can lead to worse conditions).

The only acceptable (with caution too), can be application of PEMF type devices, which are very different approach.

Pain is horrible ...i recommend for your sister not experiment with electrical pulse .... but a very effective technique is to find a doctor who know THERAPY NEURAL ...it is very effective in nervious pain..i have my proper experience with fantastic result in trigeminal neuralgia....

                Don't play with health!
Forget alternative solutions and go directly to doctor specialist.
If one can't help you - ask for another, there is always solution.
Alternative medicine can help sometimes in solving some not so serious issues, but in this case playing with it is huge hazard.
Go to specialist, don't waste time.
                Cheers!

My sister is still in hospital care. She called me this afternoon - they are proposing to inject some kind of anethetic in her lower spine area and want her to contact nearest kin/family for their opinion(!). She was already doped up - could easily tell from her voice - and they want her to ask us... Hey hey hey. I asked what's the downside and she didn't know. I think they want to try and guarantee the pain dies for some time while they try and localize the cause if they can. So, I remain intrigued with the concept of stimulating the metal hip joint itself with the electromagnetic pulses.... I would imagine she'd either say it hurts more, less, or no difference - pretty quickly. The geek in me wants to know - I feel like making up a little 5" coil setup that I can carry with me next visit....

                    Please read this ->

The conclusion seems to be that TENS has little clinical benefit when compared to a placebo. Personally I would leave it alone and let the medical professionals do their work.

If your sister is already "doped up" and her pain is too strong, a TENS unit won't do anything good.
Only medecine can do something for her.
IMPORTANT : Don't use it into a medical center. There is a lot of electronic sensitive devices around.
Even a GSM phone is not allowed !

The pain can be cured with water. Please read these books:

Never let a doctor inject any foreign substance into your body..
In the early 1980's we built Induction coil pulse units for Race horses...to heat injured muscles.
Now we use Powerful ultrasonics to achieve localised heating and faster recovery.

PS... Big money in looking after Race Horses...
