  • styroseal capacitor - need substitute?

    Hi guys,

Recently i was looking some of the metal detector such as ETI 561 - Simple Sensitive Metal Detector. In this project it use a styroseal capacitor. Could anyone tell me what kind of this type of capacitor it is? I intended to make this project for my cousin (giving him time to spend during school holiday). I can't find this capacitor, maybe it was obsolete a long time ago. Or maybe i can substitute/replace it with other type like ceramic capacitor? Any suggestions?

Polystyrene or polypropylene should do, but you'll have to guesstimate temperature coefficients. Most probably negative.

Styroseal are polystyrene capacitors. Similar modern parts would be the FSC/EX series, eg.:http://uk.farnell.com/lcr-components...1?Ntt=952-0651

          Hi Skippy,

Thanks for reply, just one quick question want to ask you, can i use polyster or mylar capacitor for this metal detector project?

Don't do that unless you want to have to constantly fiddle the frequency knob to compensate for drift.
