  • surf PI help

I just finished putting together a surf PI 1.2 kit from silverdog. I have assembled everything with no issues.

When I apply power and turn it on, I get 5.8v and -4.8v and I can also set o.ov offset. The only issue is that I have no audio. No sound whatsoever. I even checked voltage at the speaker pins and nothing there.

any pointers or help in the right direction...?

Is this the bridge that gets soldered in? Or is it an addition I need to add?

It is temporary, testing circuit you have to use to check sound block only. After that change to schematic you have to hear permanent sound signal, if not, there is something wrong with transistor Q6, speaker or components around it.

Another issue, I can get it to barely respond to my white gold ring, and keys only make it "whisper"

the ring has to be 1-2mm away and the keys will " whisper" to about 6 inches. what I mean by whisper is that there is no audible beep, the threshold tone only slightly changes

It could be my coil isnt that good.... It has around 450 induction readings. I have read that this isnt too far off to where it wouldnt work.

I can touch the ring to the coil wires and nothing, but if i touch it to the shield it will beep. also I did leave a gap between the shield and the coil leads. I also followed bbsailors guide how to make a fast mono coil. I even used the 30awg wire.

I did see where someone else was having this same issue and I also get the same problem where if my hand goes near the offset pot, it reacts to my hand.

                any ideas here?

my coil was incorrect. i was using too small a diameter wire. I switched to 24 awg and it works great now
