  • LCD MODULES 16x2 QUESTION

what lcd modules 16x2 are suitable for day light use for a metal detector ???

  • #2
Funnily enough I was looking on MD4U.RU site last week and there was a photo of the bar code explaining what the numbers letters mean one was daylight readable

    Can't find it again

This one does look nice though https://translate.google.co.uk/trans...50&prev=search

i contacted rapid electronics who said (none) of their lcd modules are suitable for day light use....i saw some std reflective type without back lighting and wondered if these are the one's for day light use ??? i wonder if normal back lit lcd module's could be converted to reflective type ???

Fairly sure dark characters on a light background work fine in strong light. My cheap Chinese OBDII reader does. Doubt they put anything fancy in it.

Here is a reflective with backlight, From the UK. Reflective's use side lighting, while transflective use backlighting.

              Hi everyone !!

Altra i think the link you gave me is the correct display for day light....i didnt know much about lcd modules and just bought standard back lit type without knowing...i found out the reflective type use a brushed aluminium back plate with maybe a polarizer...i wonder if my ones could be converted ??? i put a mini oscilloscope on one of my pulse detectors and being TFT you cannot see anything on the screen in day light so i was very dissapointed...my friend has made me a hood for the mini oscilloscope and see if that improves things.

You are correct. I didn't read the fine print. The photo shows the LED backlight contacts, so I assumed wrong.

Its a dark rainy day, will wait till the sun comes out, if it does.

Tried in the gloomy daylight, black letters on green background , very readable, needs sun though.

Not sure about the first one. Being lit from behind if the light hitting it from the front is greater than the backlight it would be difficult to read. The older type the stronger the light the easier it is to read
