  • Urgent help required for Teknetics T2 and Goldfinder G2

    Dear All,

I try helping a friend who have an event including team building with treasure hunting game. However the supplier who was about to sell the 18 detectors have stock of only 4:-(. So instead of going to the proven brand, he went to another shop and buy 5 teknetics T2 which work more than satisfactory. However the rest 13 of the detectors are chinese Goldfinder G2(they look exactly as the Teknetics G2). Aditionally the Goldfinders have no coils but they are supplied with the Teknetics T2 coils. After getting all that bunch i figure out the following:

Teknetics are suitable(the target is an iron box, so shouldn't be much of a challenge). For some reason though the Goldfinders are detecting that 20x20 box and even more massive iron pieces only at around 12cm. What can be the reason? Is it possible that the coils are not apropriate or have a different pinout(all the 13 pieces react the same way?!?!?). Is there a chance i'm missing something in the setup which look quit intuitive?!?!? Please let me know if you have experience with these as the event is tomorrow evening and i have no idea what else can be the issue.
    Thanks in advance

My experience with Chinese knock-offs is that they are good at copying circuits, they are good at copying software, but they are bad at building coils and they are bad at calibrating everything at the end. Probably why they gave you T2 coils, though I would not assume they are real T2 coils. I've seen counterfeits of those as well. But probably the units are not calibrated properly.

Obvious point - Teknetics T2 coils aren't the same as Teknetics G2 coils, different L,R values, different winding configuration (T2 is centre-tapped transmit, G2 is single winding) and the pinout on the connector will differ. You need coils specifically for the G2, which includes the Fisher F19, the F5, the Teknetics Gamma, Delta 'Greek' machines etc , probably a few others ..

Thanks a lot. So you confirm my suspicions. Additionally i get the G2 manual (chinese come without) and everything on the control box matches the teknetics G2. However, the GG(Grab ground - sort of automatic ground balance thing) does not work properly. Neither the manual ground balance adjustment. The gain pot make little difference. Anyway, as a backup i give my friend my Bounty hunter quick silver and almost completed Baracuda which for that type of target is on par with the T2 if not better. Hopefully if the event go right I'll have hand on both the models and will come with some pics inside and out, plus possible coil details.
Despite saying three time to be careful with the plastic bolts the guys who assemble manage to crack two. One of the teks come with broken stand of the control box so i just finish the "surgery" of all these and praying they sustain tomorrows event. Thank you again and good night.

All depends which manufacturer of many that you might buy the T2 (GF2) clone and the GoldBug Pro-G2 (FS2) from, as to quality and performance. In general the coils they supplied look good but, they don't know how to make a proper working coil. Hit and miss if you get a good coil. You more than likely need to replace the coil with a genuine coil or an aftermarket coil. This automatically adds $125 to $175 to the price of the knock off. You get the best deal when you buy 4-6 units. Since they are knock-offs, US Customs may seize them. Canada Customs could care less. I haven't heard of any problems with knock-off items being seized in the European countries. Keep this in mind.

Oops, didn't read closely enough. I assumed the Chinese was a knock-off of the T2, but he says it's a knock-off of the G2. So, yes, the coils are completely wrong.

Yeah, looking at the shape of the control box, all mentioned by sven match the descriptions. When looking for reviews and manuals i first hit the one for FS2 and i worn the guy to not buy them, but he decide to take the risk. I can give you pictures now before he come to take the one i got for repair. Thanks for the customs info, but that's not issue as they'll be used only today and if i get those free i will take them with me in Europe. As per the coils, all the T2 work fine on T2 cant say fake or not. Obvious they've being exposed to sun as despite well packed all have the external insulation around the strain cracked. Did anybody know the pinouts of both these models as the bolts are sealed with something and i dont like to take the risk opening them before they are used? Actually it is a miracle they work at all on G2:-). Forgot to mention that together with the auto ground balance the pinpoint function also does not work. I attribute it to the wrong coil.

Here the culprits;-) Control boxes have sort of holographic stickers, but not the coils. The white things on the cable are the cracked parts where as per me Teflon insulation is visible(looks like paper though).

I have been to the T2 factory in China. The tx winding of the T2 coil is center-tapped, so it cannot be matched with G2. Match the right coil for optimum performance

Thanks jinbiao, you just confirm what skippy explain to me. Now remains the question where to source affordable coil from. I don't think is as easy job to DIY as with the PI machines. Neither on Ebay, neither on the teknetics site i see anything below 170$. Ali express sell only sets.

You often see the round 5 inch DD coil for the Tek T2 appear on eBay. This is because it is included in the T2-SE package, but not everyone thinks it's useful, so they sell it on, usually to fund a bigger coil purchase. It's not a good decision, the 5 inch-er is good, and bigger coils are usually disappointing.

The problem is that i need coil for G2 not for T2. In fact with the current situation i have two T2 11 inch coils and not even one for G2;-). Thinking of trade on/barter. Just speak to the guy and he say from 19 treasure boxes they find 12,so I'll have some fun tomorrow;-).

Sorry, my turn to be mixed up, now.
You need to find out the full list of machines from First Texas that share the G2 search-coil. That will increase your chances of getting them on eBay.
In addition to the ones I listed, there's the Teknetics Eurotek machines, and the Teknetics Liberator.

Will probably contact them directly and share the info here. it is strange they have no such info on the web site. The Bounty Hunter have a compatibility chart, how come the same company and no info?!?!?
If i can trust ebay these share the same coil:Teknetics Omega / Gamma / Delta / Alpha,G2,Eurotek Pro.

Yes, they're the same coil, and the F19, F5.
It's basically the 7.8kHz machines, but the coil is not specifically nulled at 7.8k, and works OK at other freqs, including the 19kHz G2 and F19/GoldBug machines.
There's this list on Fishers site:
