    Hello All.

First off, I would like to thank all of you for the kind messages you have sent in regards to Eric Foster.
It has been an upsetting time for all of the family, and to know how well respected Eric was in the metal detector community has been really encouraging for us all, especially myself.
I would also like to thank all of you who attended the memorial of Eric's life over zoom.

    - Lillie Foster (Eric's Loving Wife)

considering greedy companies would find ways to circumvent his patents and copyright, then "steal" his ideas i think his archive should die with him.
i know that will wind up a lot of people, but it belongs to him not mankind.
just suppose the next great idea is buried in those papers, and they get dumped on the net, only slight tweaks would be needed for someone to claim erics work as "prior art" then steal the idea.
better to die with him than let that happen.
          aly.

How wrong is that thought. If useful information disappeared with every human being, today humanity would still be backward.
I think Eric's knowledge is a legacy to humanity.
The decision on this matter rests with the family alone.

rubbish! a large portion of his archive will be subject to NDA's(all detectors designed for other companies), plus all other detectors he designed and then sold it and the company together.
its not as simple as erics dead, quick post his archive there is a lot more to it than that, solicitors(lawyers) will have to go through all of it and who will pay for that?.

just leave it alone let his widow grieve.

Years ago Eric sent me copies of some of the papers he had. Otherwise, I expect he had already made arrangements on the disbursement of his archives and prototypes. Eric was the kind of guy who liked to share his knowledge and I doubt he would leave things in a state where it all ended up in a dumpster.

This is a situation I've thought about quite a bit for myself. I have a substantial archive, both of information and of hardware, plus the Geotech web site. Very little of it belongs to FTP and I have not established a descendant custodian. Since I'm only 59 I haven't been much in a hurry but I shouldn't be too complacent because there is always the dreaded "beer truck" scenario. Something we should all probably think about.

Love and strength for his family and friends.
It is always sad when someone passes, but a time to remember all the good they created and shared with the world.
