    dear Carl,
is there an access or possibility to load off old forum archive (stand-alone file)?
the reason is anybody can read it autonomously, without www on-line.

    regards

The old forum messages were stored in text files, which were parsed by Perl code and "built" into threads on-the-fly. Yes, you could take the text files and the forum code, and run it on a stand-alone system. I am set up to do that. But you would need both Perl and web server software. Perl is free, and I use Xitami for my off-line web server. It takes a bit of tweaking to get it all to work, tho.

Actually, at one time I had thought of putting all the web site & forums on a CD, and selling it for something like $20. The web site also needs Xitami & Perl, and to make a distributable CD I would need to resolve licensing fees with both those entities. Maybe I should see what it would take to include vBulletin (they have a free "reader" version) and explore that again. Or, maintain a back-conversion to my old forum software.
