Has anyone ever tried using solar cells to power a detector?

  • #2
Probably, though I don't know of an instance. A fellow at Roke Manor in England created a detector powered by a pendulum generator... it would generate power as you swing the detector. I visited Roke Manor a few years ago, and snapped some pics of the gadget, at which point my camera was confiscated. They kindly returned it, though.

        Solar Pinnacle

About 20 odd years ago a new detector was launched in the UK. It was Solar Powered and called the Solar Pinnacle. It got quite a lot of publicity at the time. But was a complete flop comercially and soon disapeared. It was a bit like Silver Sabre to use and had a flat solar cell on top of the box about 4" by 3". This panel would have been quite expensive at the time, probably cost more for the panel than a large box of batteries.
