  • Looking for a very deep detector

    Hello.

I need a detector for the sole purpose of hitting very deep targets in my low mineralized ground. More specifically, a detector that hits targets at least 4" to 6" deeper, and up to 10" deeper than our current popular detectors can hit. I've got two low trash sites, in low mineralized ground, that I know has a lot of gold jewelry that is beyond the range of the popular detectors.

I considered a PI, but it looks like their depth advantage only occurs in highly mineralized ground. For example, I saw an excellent video from You Tuber "Relics & Rings" in which he did a depth comparison between the Manticore, Deus II, Axiom, and a Minelab PI. In his low mineralized ground, there was no significant depth difference between those detectors. As such, it doesn't seem a PI will meet my needs.

I've been checking out the Golden Mask 4Xtreme and the Nexus MP V3? I saw a video of the Nexus MP V3 hitting coin sized targets about 6" to 10" deeper than anything like the Nox, Legend, D2, or Manticore. I have no idea how it can hit that deep, and I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it with my own eyes.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    BTW:

Carl, I ordered the third edition of your book. I can't wait to dive into it!

I've not used one so I'm hesitant to recommend it, but from what I've heard of the Nexus it's your most likely candidate. Another detector known for raw depth in milder ground is the Nautilus, if you can find one.

      Thanks for that Carl.

If such massive depth is indeed true, do you have any idea how it is achieved? If so, do you know why such isn't incorporated in the popular detectors?

On the Nautilus, the TX runs off 44V which is 4x higher than usual, but also why Nautilus doesn't work well in highly mineralized soil. The Nexus resonant-tunes the RX coil which provides a significant signal boost but can also make TID tricky. You can only resonant tune the RX coil in SF designs, not MF. Nexus might also run a high TX, I don't know.

          Ok. That makes sense.

Thankfully, I have low mineralized ground and for those sites I mentioned, TID won't be an issue, because I'll be digging everything except obvious ferrous.

One last question if you don't mind:

Is that precise resonant tuning on the RX coil, possible with a DD coil?

Yes, any IB coil can be RX resonant-tuned.

In hindsight, I do have one more question.

I have a thread on FMDF about this topic, can I please quote you on that forum?

                Hi Diga,

you wrote in your first post "... More specifically, a detector that hits targets at least 4" to 6" deeper, and up to 10" deeper than our current popular detectors can hit..." . This is not precise as it depends on the actual detector model used for comparison. So what actual depths in cm are you looking for?

                  Hi GeoMax.

I hope it's ok to mention...but I saw video from Calabash Digger comparing the depth of the Manticore to the Nexus MP V3. On a dime buried at around 23cm, the Manticore was just hitting it, but the Nexus not only hit the dime very hard, but was still hitting the dime with the coil raised about 20cm.

I'm specifically looking for a detector that can detect coin sized objects in low mineralized, little trash ground, much deeper than detectors like the Manticore, Legend, Deus II, and the Equinox.

I advise contacting the designer Georgi Chaushev directly via the Nexus website -> https://nexusdetectors.com/

I might end up doing that Qiaozhi, because even though the price of the MP V3 is high, I'm still considering it.

The Nexus will give you a several inch depth advantage no doubt.. Deeper than anything I have owned so far, even more than the Nautilus (which I have). I have the older Credo and Nexus Standard Mk11, and they are not even the deepest Nexus machines available.

The two detectors I mentioned above are somewhat of a one trick pony though. Depth at the sacrifice of speed in Disc mode, but my soil is tough! All metal mode is generally the only way to get true depth in my soil. I have not tried the MP made for mineralized soil.

Thank you for the reply dfbowers.

I've been discussing Golden Mask detectors with two owners of such on a different forum. They're saying that the models they have, hit significantly deeper than even their deepest SMF detectors. For example, one of them said his GM hits about 50% deeper than his Deus II. The newest detector in the GM line up is the 4Xtreme, and neither of them have that model. According to the manufacturer, the 4Xtreme hits about 30% deeper than the models that those two guys have. It's also significantly cheaper than the Nexus MP V3.

I'll likely go with the GM 4Xtreme, but I would sure like to know how its depth compares to the deepest Nexus model. If I had to guess, I'd guess they would have similar depth.

Just a side note... The two Nexus machines I have are high voltage TX models and are resonant tuned. The newer MP models are high current TX models and are not resonant tuned, so says Georgi. I don't know how he gets the performance out of the MP V3.
