I want to buy a vlf detector , Not interested in extra bells and whistles that do nothing.Does not have to be the latest rage or the most popular name brand name.Im looking for one that has control able sensitivity with the most depth possible . Not afraid of learning curves. Ive chosen this site because you guys know the inner working of these machines. and which is the best bang for the buck .The hype is very misleading and the average Joe knows little more than I do which is the best. I want to use it for playgrounds perhaps relic hunting and alike . I'm open for suggestions all replies will be greatly appreciated. PS I know nothing abt electronics.......regards Bill

What else? Those are my favorite.And those are for real prospectors not weekend hobbysts. Intentionally i skipped "talking&walking" high-tech toys...although i do respect White's DFX much.

Almost agree on most Carl's choices...except Garret Ace! Had chance to test it...buiakk! Descent detection but worst discrimination i ever saw!
Absolute champion of "liars" - Garret Ace!

Instead it i will suggest really best cheap detector - Black Knight! Only 88e...
Excellent depth,small coil,very good discrimination!

Yes, i agree on White's models mentioned! Excell machines!

I have to admit that the Ace 250 is one I've never tested, and I was going by the overwhelmingly positive reports I've read from users. IV, maybe you got a dud... or maybe I should get one and test it before I talk about it!

Actually it is K-MD3023, made in China. Recently i tested several chinesse detectors. MD3018 (White's 6000 style) , MD3030 (Griffon) and k-MD3023 (B.Knight).
While MD3018 and MD3030 are really looking "hi-pro", very quality enclosures and mounting shafts as well as indeed nice looking coils..on other hand K-MD3023 is looking like ordinary toy. Funny shaft,fat small funny coil and toy looking enclosure. But! Do not be fooled like i was! Among those 3, K-MD3023 showed best performances! Real thrill! 100% stabille on soil, neither one false signal. Depth very descent and discrimination almost that good as on "pro" models from main manufacturers. I was amazed! For only 88e in German shops, man get real maximum from metal detector!
MD3018 suffers from being deaf on small items and kind inert. MD3030 suffering from huge instabillity on soil surface!
K-MD3023 is BEST low budget detector i saw ever.
I bought one and last couple days frequently using it on field. I am very satisfied with it.


Need to be checked...but i could swear this is direct copy of Bounty Hunter Tracker IV !!!

Now you must be even more confused.

As you can see, not everyone agrees. The best detector for you is the one that you feel most comfortable using. If you want to search playgrounds, then I guess you're really a coinshooter. In that case, Garrett have some of the best. Personally I like the GTAx 1000, but they don't maunfacture that one anymore. The Fisher detectors are also good, as are Tesoro, and others swear by the DFS, XLT and MXT detectors from Whites. I would suggest that you try before before you buy. It's quite often just a matter of personal likes or dislikes. If you can find either a metal detector shop, or someone with a good collection of detectors, it would be wise to spend some time practising in the field before you make your decision. There's much more to deciding which one is best for you than simply looking at the features. You could end up very dissappointed.

One last point - ignore the cheap cr*p you see on eBay. Go for one of the main manufacturers.

Reason we named our favorite models is ONLY to help him to void wasting money.
Garret is GREAT player. Me personally, i had GTI2500 and am very satisfied what i saw than, using it.It could be better...but hey, nobody perfect!
Yet...despite fact that Garret is relly "main manufacturer" still Ace series are all HUGE CR*P !!!
So...?
Thats why i suggested rather "cheap" Black Knight, cose from my own experience i know that it would be less money waste and more benefits&finds from it than from Garret Ace...

Quiaozhi...and others..friends,new era is coming! We should abandon old prejudices about "western" and "eastern" technology levels.
Chinnese detectors were total cr*p in the past. Now they are not!
Among tens of various models, man can find one or two really good ones!
Chinnese manufacturers are not stupid! They know if continue with same old routine, they gonna bust pretty soon. So now time came that we can see real progress in their technology.
They do produce hi quality good for real.
Now quite oposite phenomena occuring!
"Western" "main manufacturers" exhausted their knowledge and technology and all of the sudden started to produce more and more cr*p products!
I posted so many posts here with ocassional remarks about this.
Minelab Relic Hawk was "killer". But it was produced 10-15 years ago. Now...
they trying to "push" some funny X-Terras here! The hell! Total cr*p!!!
Where is Cscope, Compass,Teknetics,Bounty Hunter....
Where is great FIsher!?!?!
F2,F4,F75 !!?!?!? Are they joking??? Are those latest Fishers????

Only White's remained on "straight line" so far. All other "main manufacturers" sold their soul to devil! It is so obvious, when you test latest models.
And trust me, i ve been tested 80% of todays models...
So....let's have open mind for a while!
Let's give a chance to newcomers on market!
Besides....what we can loose? Not a great deal of money, for sure..

I saw the UK site and the German site. At German site says that the model that you have attached here is the Black Knight pro, but yhe UK site ...... Black Knight plus. At photo (the UK site for pro models) show a detector that likes to Whites 6000...
Finally wich is the right for Black Knight pro model???
