  • Connect it to pins 1 and 7 of LM358 (U103 in Don Bower PDFs).

Why you need to use different battery? It worked with one battery pack for me.

I used Don's Arduino file and hooked it to pin 1 and 7 but it only goes nuts beeping and staying stuck on the quarter id Maybe I did something wrong, Or should I use the op amp circuit and then use Pin 1,7 ?

Using Don's Arduino Vid for the IDX on the TGSL
I tried it again but with a battery on the Arduino instead of my bench top power supply ( which I suspect it has a problem ) With pin 1 7 of the LM358 U103a and 103B it now sorta of work but seems like the signals are to weak as it only VId's when its close to the could and one time out of 4 does it have the correct ID , although if I use Pin 1 from U103B and Pin 7 of U107A , The Arduino side ( the Beeps) I gain a few cm and a faster response time, then the TGSL audio circuit does, But! the VID screen goes blank Probably due to the fact its getting a larger input due to the fact Pin7 of U107A is for the Audio? Which is probably how the two tone board works ? EDIT It works best when in discrimination at 1/4 turn.

        • I bet you did not read thread from the beggining.
It work only for targets which are over disc. So if you set over pulltab, you have only reading for coins. Did you calibrate properly? You need to calibrate after ANY disc change. I used it with disc under foil to see any target. Use board with mcp602, use 1 & 7 of lm358. For what reason you used U107?

            I

am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to electronics yet but im learning ! slowly but surely its sinking in haha ! Seeing that it was not working with Lm358 U103,(due to faulty PS) I thought maybe I was using the wrong opamp for the VID so I tried the U107 then I experimented with pin 1 from one and 7 from the other and vs versa lol , Isn't the point of a VID, so you can run it all metal mode to have better depth , while still having the ability to see if its worth digging up or not? ? I am going to make the MPC board but I have to redo for the Arduino Namo, I don't have any of the Pro Mini's, Does the Code for the Mcp602 work with the I2C chip pcf8574t, That is what's on my lcd's not the adafruit I2C chip.

Do you have a working VID on you TGSL? because in one post its said to use pin 1 and 7 of the LM358 and a other post it says to use pin 6 of each lm308, http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showt...242#post203242 and what or where is the encoder I keep reading about? HAHAHA I am about to give up on the Vid for the tgsl, and just go for the 2 tone mod if this keeps up. lol I don't give up easy but dammmm lol

              • I used it on IGSL, connected to U103 (IGSL has different ID for ICs, but it is the same place like for TGSL). Through board with mcp602. I used Nano, because it has its own regulator to 5V and used these 5V from nano to feed also the board and display.

I think that this does not work in all metal. Watch schematics, in all metal mode both channels get exactly the same readings, therefore you do not get X and R, you get only R and R. I used very low discrimination , to get numbers around 5 for foil. Detection depth is almost the same like in all metal so do not worry about few extra cm, you do not get reliable reading in that distance anyway.

Thanks ill give that a try, Ill be using a nano also because that's all I have .

                  • Can anyone offer useful help please, before I start pulling my hair out! I used a portion of the VDI-IDX-PRO to make the preamp (see photos) and hooking up outputs to A0 A1 to a Nano, The problem is I need ground from the IDX to ground to the nano, but there seems to be a power issue, the idx does a odd grunting noise , if I measure the Neg- wire of the preamp board to the ground plane of the IDX I get plus 7V

I'll test in the field and see how it goes.. When all looks good I'll create new thread with a more detailed instructions.

Daren, did you finalise all this elsewhere?....mine is working (V13) but not quite sure what all the options are!
                      THANKS

                      • (Menu options I mean).... It would be nice to incorporate Dons' 'ID labels' instead of the ID numbers, I'll have a play

                        • help friends
it's been a long time, VDI. check all files
                          they all make mistakes
please send me a really running program
note: running when I throw another Arduino program
                          so there's no connection error
                          VDI generates compile error
                          please help
