  • chemical for stripping

    Hey all,
I have a well used SD2100 control box that I want to examine.

Could somebody please tell me if either toluene or xylene will work to loosen the paint from the circuit boards?

Which would be better? Something else entirely? Thank you for any information on this, I don't want unnecessary chemicals taking up space...

On this thread it was mentioned that cellulose or cellulosic paint thinner works

A paint stripper produced locally with 1,3.dioxolane - 53% works but very slow and smells terrible st least it doesnt damage the board. One italian paint stripper ive tried eats up the board... so get few paint strippers and test old boards first. Soak for 24h and put some capacitors too to see if any visible damage might have happened. Caution - most paint strippers are dangerous. Work with extreme caution.

Hmm. Alright, well... what about MEK, that comes to mind... ? Don't worry I wouldn't be using it indoors that stuffs right on par with xylene for really bad ways to smell up your home. I can almost smell it already. Something you never forget, the smell of fresh MEK. Ummh. Xylene. OSHA, save me.
I don't mean to be contrary, but I've never heard of the other chemicals you guys mention. So I'll go to a paint store with your suggestions and see what they can make of it. THANK YOU for the tips.
