I see most of the pi detectors are using n-channel mosfet to drive the coil. Why is it better?
I would like to find a better mosfet for surf/bara, as pushing the detector for more depth irf become hot, even with heatsink. Did someone experiment other mosfets? What do you recommend?

Good info on MOSFETS
Found a good overview on the use of MOSFETS. It covers Avalanche, driving, basic description and more. In an associated article it also
explains why the original 555 the NE555 is best to directly drive MOSFETS. It can be found here

New MOSFET with high breakdown voltage
Just found this new MOSFET. Would it be useful in PI applications?
it has a rather high input capacitance so may require higher drive currents.

General part question - Mosfets
Hey guys,
This is probably a dumb question to some of you but I don't understand so need to ask.
I drew an image and attached so you can look at what I am asking.
What is the direction arrow for on these mosfets? I understand the diode
portion of the drain...
