$15 is a great price for a 77B. Some people still like this model because it handles nail-infested areas fairly well, though with less overall depth.

Mouser has the battery holders for $1 each, probably Digi-key as well.

Carl, thanks so much for the reply! My wife found some battery holders @ Radio Shack...I just couldn't wait.

OK, my other question is whether or not the newer metal detectors have better detection technology than mine? I'm guessing there should have been some advances since this thing was manufactured, some 30 odd years ago.

For the first time ever, I started doing some treasure hunting and learned a few things. I'm gonna need better tools and techniques for rooting around for the things I detect, buried foil sucks, and this is super-duper addicting!

Question for you about the controls on my 77B...There is a "Ground Condition" dial that has 3 selections: Low, Normal, High. What does this mean?

Also, this is a mineral-metal type detector. What exactly would I be looking for when searching for minerals?

      Thanks a bunch!
      George

                  Talk about Detector City...

Wow Carl, what an awesome collection! Just fantastic! I was wondering about the little blue guy in the center up against the wall. It looks much like the little 3 knober BountyHunter I used to have. As a matter of fact, even the handle appears to have a foam grip on it, over the standard hard rubber grip that came standard. Is it possible it came from Canada? :-)

Also the red unit on the wall and the one on the ground in the front row also look like old BH'ers. RB5? RB7?

Must be fun just trying to figure out which two or three to take out on a trip with ya? Love it!

                    That's a C&G Wildcat.

RB7 on the wall, RB5 on the ground.

Since this pic, I've obtained a few more BH's... an Eliminator, 2 Outlaw's, and an 840.
