Is it possible to hack up a cheap metal detector and make it at least close to competing with the higher-end metal detectors and if so could somebody please explain how please?I have a cheaper model and don't have $1000 to spend on the one I'd love to have so I just thought maybe this could be done.Any kinda help, info, and or opinions would be greatly appreciated
Hi, it appears you are here in the States, my advice is to buy used. Most of the top of the line detectors can be bought in the 450 to 650 range in very good condition and you can choose what brand and model you are interested in. That is unless you have a background in electronics where you can make one from the ground up.

Hi, Nakky.
your kitchen technology is a top, I could not do similar things because my kitchen is very tiny
an industrial coil is more difficult you may suspect yourself. it is layered coil. take a look on sketch I did. I think you losed some comments on the matter I have pasted in forum of.
A great topic to discuss !!! Micro-controllers , pic-chips and atmels. But discuss them for another reason , is what I am hoping for !! If you look at Jonas new thread under the schematics title , called CS6PI go to thread #21 and you will see oscillogram photos of the CS4PI . It has the most important data parameters, the frequency in pps , the pulse width , and the pulse delay. I still think with absolute certainty that a good Metal detector can be built on the bench using just the necessary function parameters like "TX" transmit parameters , "RX" recieve parameters , and audio / threshold parameters without needing a Pic-chip or atmel. All that is needed , is very carefull oscilloscope readings/recordings of the TX,RX,Audio Data in the field. Watching the oscilloscope watch the detector watch the ground Then build the equivalent circuit to produce the end results you recorded on your oscilloscope...........The Tesoro Cortez or Golden umax would be an excellent detector to experiment with..........Thank-You.........Eugene
