Today I purchased a perfect "brand new" Condition Whites Programable Metal Detector for 90.00 u.s. dollars , but it only has a date of 1987 inside the battery housing !!!!! It tested perfect and deep , on several different coins. It uses 4 "C" cells and has a blue metal case , uses the old type solid white color search coil , It looks like it has never been used , not a scratch on it !! I need a model number . I will post a picture in about 2 weeks . Was there a programmable spectrum in 1987?? Thanks for any help.......I will be back on here in 2 weeks...........Regards..............Eugene

"unknown" Whites Deep-Seeker
Thanks everyone !!! It looks like KT315's photo , but On the bottom of the blue metal case , it only says "Eagle". I will be testing it again tomorrow , so far though it is finding coins at 8 to 9 inches , not bad , also $90.00 dollars is Great if the chip holds all original memory! I wonder what the original price was in 1987 and if it has auto ground balance. I think that this detector was found in an attic of an estate sale. I will be searching at old properties built around 1920 , 40 miles east of Los Angeles , I will post photos of everything I find later . To me , just finding this un-used classic metal Detector was a great find.....Any comments are welcome !! I will know more tommorrow about this dinasaur
...........Regards........Eugene

The Eagle was the first gen, Eagle II was a firmware upgrade. It is a pretty good detector even by today's standards. Basically a 6000di taken digital. I believe it did ground tracking.
I recently pulled a mint one from our repair center that was to be used for parts (gasp!) and added it to my vintage collection. Had been looking for one for quite a while but they're hard to find.

This older Whites Eagle seems to work perfect for its age , but I am still searching for an original Tesoro Lobo VLF , complete and working , Not the super trac. and I probably will trade my eagle for an original lobo , later when I get back home to Nevada......I Will post my final "Whites Eagle" field test finds later................Eugene

Whites Eagle - "Dinosaur"
My first field tests were today with the Whites "dinosaur" Eagle. It works perfect , but I have some concerns . I found 4 quarters ranging from 4 to 6 inches deep in Clay-Dirt , which is normal . One dime at 6 inches also . Ok, the problems are I could not increase sensitivity button higher than the 1 setting . 2 through 5 caused total chatter even after ground was balanced . The second problem is the battery pack runs for 5 hours max , I thought it was 8 hours on full charge!!! The rechargeable battery pack says 4.8 volts , Why ?? I thought 4 "C" cells in series are 6 volts !! Any way , with fresh brand new batteries this detector works beautifully and almost 100% accurate discriminate and depth readings , when it says a dime it is a dime , when it says quarter ,it is a quarter . But like I said , it bothers me when I can not run sensitivity at 2 ,3 ,4 or 5 and there are no power lines nearby . Also the battery life needs to be better , because when I am out Digging , I am out 8 hours "ALL-DAY" , not 5. So for today , I rate this machine only a 6 of 10........................Regards..............Eugen e

I dont know why you have so many problems. My Eagle works perfect between 1 to 4 and if all are"clear" to 5 sensitivity. Before 2 years about i had a problem like yours at my XLT and the problem was the coil. With a new coil i solved the problem. But for the Eagle.... the coil is more expensive than the unit. Try to see if the connector contacts are clean.
Now about battery.... rechargeable battery are 4.8V (4x1.2V) not 6V. But you can use and 6V alcaline. I never used my detector for 4 or more hours continuesly, so i dont know about the full working time.
About sensitivity.... if you found the dime at 6'' with sens to 1 , then at full sens you will detect it at least 2'' more....

Whites Eagle
Thanks Geo and everyone , Now I am looking for a Blue Max 950 coil. Also , I found a 1200 mah 4.8 v. rechargeable nicd battery pack for $14.99 , much better than Whites price of $34.95.............In a few weeks I will be picking up a Whites 6000 DI pro for $50.00 , so the 6000 di will be the back-up unit to my "Dinosaur Eagle" . And next year I will continue on my 2 Geotech projects , the Relic Hawk from Max and Freds work and the Tesoro Lobo vlf from Maxbiri's work.................Regards................Eugene

Hi. 1200mah are small capacity. My old whites pack has 4x1.2v/2000 mah. Today you can put inside 4 batteries at the same distance with capacity more than 3300 mah. But the battery is an small problem, you can solve it every time. The problem is the low sensitivity. The best is to try a blue Max from a fried before you buy it.
