Simplest PI detector possible?

While looking around one of the Russian forums I came across this circuit, looks interesting and simple.
Maybe Eddy71 knows a bit more about it.

This is my test , it works fine:
This is the pirat, frequency 280-290 hz, coil 8 inch, 295uh - 1.5ohms , damping resistor 540ohms, time pulse 3%.

what is stability of this detector when you run it for long time?
and coil information (number of turns,wire gauge ) ?
is it suitable for large coils?

simplest PI is Barracuda detector. if you do something different you meet big problem.
thats my last word on this matter.

If you want to build the Russian Pirat then use the Layout with the K157UD2, it works better.
25cm for a 1 Euro coin. If you want more then build the surf pi or maybe the barracuda.

There are also Kits at ebay for the Pirat Pi with K157ud2.
