    • hello vermeer

which material did you use for shielding
best is thin mylar foil (rettungsdecke)
and did you connect shield to detector or box?

      • i have shielded with the Material from 3M (i think 3M 24) an in the Moment i dont have a Box all on Bench my shield is going on PCB

              • Baracuda working

Hi Folks, received my Bara kit from Silverdog last week and finally got to put it together today. I must say hats off to Silverdog for this awesome Kit . Spent about 4 Hours on the pcb and then wound up a quick test coil ( 28t 9" form wire size 0.5 ) hooked up a 9v ni-cad battery for testing, adjusted offset, delay and threshold and bingo the Bara was picking up a Canadian $1.00 looney at 23cm . Can't wait to see what the Bara will do with a fast coil and a good battery pack. Thanks to all on the forum for you input on the Bara, I read all threads several times sure helped in getting good results .

                Cheers.

                • I have a Question can i change the lf412 with a lt1115 (lower Noise!) my Question is have anyone do this and is the Pinout the same?

lt1115 is not pin compatible and not a jfet opamp
                    you can use tl071 / tl081

                    • LF412 is a dual opamp. LT1115 is a single (also TL071, TL081). They are not interchangable.

edit: Now, if you would be wanting to replace the NE5534 with LT1115, that might work. But whether it would work without having to make some other changes, I can't really say. The compensation and offset-null pin connections are about the same so it might work, but no guarantee.

Linear Technology does not give an example of how any compensation capacitor should be connected in the LT1115 datasheet and you should not assume that it would be exactly like the NE5534 connection.

                        apologies, make that tl072 / tl082

                          • Help power supply problem

Hi Folks, my bara has developed a power supply problem. with a 10.8v supply the -5 volt regulator 79l05 has around -2.5v on output pin,the positive regulator 78l05 is +5v. If I lower the supply voltage to around 9volt the bara will work but with low sensitivity and the -5 will come up to -3.5v. I tried changing out the 79l05 but no change. I'm thinking maybe the 7660 is defective. any thoughts would be appreciated.

                            • Why don't you check the output voltage of the 7660 (input to 7905)?

If you replace the ICL7660 I suggest you use the 'A' version, ICL7660A.

In the Barracuda circuit, the 7660 voltage converter is powered from a 78L05, which means the negative voltage at pin 5 will not be -5V as shown in the schematic. This voltage is always lower than expected. You could improve this circuit by breaking the track that goes between the 78L05 output and pin8 of the 7660, and connecting the 7660's input directly to the +ve side of the battery. In this case you must use a 7660A, as the 7660 has a maximum input voltage of 10V. Also, the 7660 is synchronized to the TX oscillator via pin 2. Since the TX pulse rate is relatively low for the 7660 to operate efficiently, this will also cause the -5V supply to drop out when the input voltage is lowered.
