  • By adding Threshold, GB and adjustable SAT. You will find they interact with each other. Mega you'll get used to it, kind of like your PI.
Guess that's why the IDX is mass produced without those controls, might confuse too many people.
With the 5.3 my IDX my threshold remains very stable in all metal mode.
My 9.5 coil, have to fix the coil cable at the coil fitting, damaged cable jacket, falses.
Air tests using both coils was impressive but, not overly excited about it. If it goes almost as deep in the ground or close to it, it will suit many of my hunting needs.
With Mr. Bill's mods it does make the detector more versatile. How much depth improvement the mods made, don't know, as my IDX was a basket case when I got it
so I didn't try hunting with it. have to say the way it is set up no, operation kind of reminds me of an older White's detector.

If there was a 2 or 3 tone mod, would make a really nice detector.

      • Hello everyone. This is my first time posting. So iam working on what I call a frekienst detector. I'am using a whites classic SL one knob style detector as my platform.
        My question is
        1. What wattage potentiometer would I use, I noticed there is different wattages. Half watt and up.
        2. I know the values of the threshold and ground balance knobs. However what would be the value for a sensitivity knob for this machine. 10k , 50k or 100k potentiometer ?
        3. Since this version detector I have uses the 6b coils , the coil is not interchangeable, it is hardwired. I would like to add the female part that connects to the box and wire the cable with the male connector so I can use my other 6b coils.
I know it's alot of questions but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
        Jeremiah

        • Hi guys.
i own a White's Classic SL and would like to do MR Bills Mod to it. i am useless when it comes to what resister value is what etc. i have dyslexia. i was looking at the instructions at the beginning of this thread and was wondering about a few things........

          (1) Replace resistor R24 with a 2.2 Meg. You could have either a 470k or a 1.5 Meg there depending on when the unit was manufactured.
i am not sure what those resisters values mean.
my machine has 1998 under the battery flap.

          (2) Check resistor R7. If it’s not a 51 ohm resistor, replace it with one of that value. It’s most likely a 100 ohm from factory. Later manufactured units had 51 ohms.
how do i know if the R7 resistor on my board is 51 ohm one or not.

(3)same goes for the R32 SAT replacement. what resistor values do i need.

my soldering skills are ok. i have done a fare bit of solder to this and that in the past. i have modified a minlab explorer before on to a straight shaft. but as i say resisters etc are just not my thing.
if anyone could be as so kind as to show me/point me in the right direction as to the components that i need it would be so much appreciated.

i have taken some photos of the board.

          many thanks in advance.

thanks a lot Dutchie for that link. much appreciated....

please could anyone tell me if i have these resistors correct for the one's to change in the instructions.
              thanks in advance guys.

              • R7 is 100 ohm on your board.

We can't see the color bands on R24 & R32, you have to take new picture.

                            You have 470K for R24, and 220K for R32.

so it looks like i only need to replace resistors R7 and R32 am i correct? plus and the potentiometers.
